Divorce Financing Options: Creative Ways to Fund Your Case

wsm-header-eEarlier this week, Financial blogger Emma Johnson — who writes at WealthySingleMommy.com — penned an interesting piece about financing options for women who may be trapped in bad marriages with no way to finance a divorce.

I hear from women all the time who are in really rotten marriages. Maybe you are one of them. Maybe you are being physically or emotionally abused and need to get out for your own safety. Sometimes the guy is just a giant dick and it’s taking its toll on your mental health. Perhaps you are just unhappy, unloved and for reasons that you don’t need to explain to anyone, you need to get out.

If you haven’t set aside money in your own account, Johnson explores several well-researched financing options, including the latest divorce financing trend: personal loans. Read her full article: How to get out of a bad marriage if you don’t have money | By Emma Johnson

I always advise women — and men — to keep their own separate bank account, not just as a “divorce slush fund” but emergency situations happen. Sometimes, creative penny-pinching can get you enough funding to end a bad marriage, but more likely your relationship has taken a turn and you need out now.

  1. Yes. I was playing “credit card shuffle” for over one year to pay an attorney fighting in a high conflict divorce that is still ongoing. I have been pro se now since May with no way I can see to pay another attorney to finish this nightmare unless post divorce payments can be negotiated following the sale of marital assets.
